Japanese whalers in spy flights

Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) has prohibited bulldogs from flying. The reason given by the airlines authorities is that the stress of flying could result in the death of this sensitive breed. The ban comes after the suggestion of the veterinarians, who think that this decision will be for the better of this breed of dogs.

At present, Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) will not permit the passengers to bring along a bulldog for boarding an international or domestic flight, according to airline spokesman Hirokazu Inoue. Previously, the flight journey used to prove fatal for the poor dogs. However, Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) has not released any official figure regarding the number of in-flight death of bulldogs. The animals have flat noses, which makes it difficult for them to adjust with the unstable temperature in the aircraft and thus is unsuitable for them. This sensitive breed of dogs also cannot endure the noise and the vibration in the flights. Bulldogs are far more sensitive than any other breed of dogs.

The decision was made prior to the summer traveling season, as many vacationers are likely to travel with their pets, which are mostly cats and dogs. Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) does not allow pets inside the cabin, but checks them in as special baggage and keeps them in an air-conditioned compartment in exchange of a fee.

India stops Russian flights in Indian airspace

Indian officials have ordered Russian airlines to stop flying in Indian airspace amid a dispute over air rights.

The order goes into effect immediately, said Moushami Chakravarty, spokeswoman for India’s civil aviation ministry.
The order came after Russian aviation officials notified the Indian government that Indian airlines would not be able to fly in Russian airspace after June 15, Chakravarty said.

The two nations’ agreement on the use of each others’ airspace expires on that date, and talks to renew it have yet to be scheduled, Chakravarty said.

Indian officials appeared to be angry that the communique was sent through the Russian national airline Aeroflot.

“We are surprised that the Russian civil aviation authorities sent a letter through Aeroflot rather than dealing directly with their Indian counterparts,” Chakravarty said.

Finding Cheap Flights

There are an abundance of ticket websites out there to help you find the best deal for a flight. There are also additional things that you can do to leverage these tools more than the average traveler.

Here are some insider secrets:

Try to find cheap flights 21 – 45 days in advance. Other than last minute deals, you will pay more as your date to leave approaches. Sometimes buying too soon months in advance also makes for higher prices.
Sometimes unsold seats are drastically discounted 2 days before departure.
Never, ever fly on weekends! Try to fly on a Monday morning, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
Try not to fly within 7 days before or after a holiday. Check your destination’s local holidays and festivals as well.
If you are buying a round trip ticket, staying longer than 90 days usually results in a higher fare. Check on just buying two 1-way tickets instead for the extra flexibility. You can also set a fictional return date and pay the change fee later. Caution: deliberately skipping your return flight will get you blacklisted on some airlines.
You may find cheap flights after midnight EST in the middle of the week. This is when airline databases are updated and sometimes you can grab a cheap ticket that has been returned back to the system.
Search for flights at all times throughout the day, you never know when a cheap ticket has been released to the system.
Take a bus (try megabus.com) or hitch a ride to the closest major airport hub.
Make sure your luggage is not over sized or overweight. Check individual airline sites for rules, some charge for a carry-on now.
Flights with longer layovers usually have lower price tags.
Early morning redeye flights are more painful bur are usually cheaper.
Fly into the largest city on the continent you are visiting. Take budget airline hops or travel overland from there to reach your destination. For instance, it may be cheaper to fly into Brussels (a major business hub) and then hitch your way to Amsterdam rather than flying straight there.
Always use frequent flier programs. It may take years, but the miles DO add up and may come in handy in the future.
Being as flexible as possible can help you find a cheap flight. Do not specify flight times, number of stops, etc.
Never buy refundable tickets if they cost more – your backpacking travel insurance may have trip cancellation coverage anyway.

Many Choices to Fly to London

The biggest of the four is London Heathrow Airport (LHR), the world's busiest airport. This sprawling airport located about 15 miles west of central London, has no fewer than five terminals and is a major hub for British Airways. It is served by hundred of airlines with direct flights to destinations all over the world.

Though it is constantly expanding and modernizing, Heathrow Airport can be a challenge at peak times with long queues both on departure and arrival. Sometimes even the planes have to queue before landing such is the extent of the air traffic.

Facilities are good with a decent choice of shops, bars and restaurants. Distances between terminals, however, can be significant so allow plenty of time for connections. Passengers can move between Terminals 1, 2 and 3 on foot, while buses and trains provide links to Terminals 4 and 5.

There are plenty of options for getting to central London. There are four London Underground stations at Heathrow; the Heathrow Express train runs non-stop to the center while Heathrow Connect will get you to London in 25 minutes. Add to this car rental, bus, shuttle and taxi, and you won't be short of means of transport to get downtown.

London's second airport is London Gatwick Airport (LGW). Though much smaller and easier to manage than Heathrow, this is still a very large airport. British Airways and Easyjet are the airport's main airlines though there are many others serving domestic, European and international destinations, including plenty of good budget flight options. The airport has two terminals, North and South, which are linked by a frequent rail shuttle.

Gatwick is located almost 30 miles south of central London but transport options are good. The Gatwick Express rail link will take you non-stop to Victoria Station, while there are other services that make a few stops along the way. Bus, coach, shuttle, taxi and car rentals are also available to get you downtown.

Thirty miles north-east of central London is Stansted Airport (STN). If you are looking for budget flights this is a good option and it serves plenty of destinations in the United Kingdom, Europe and beyond. It is a hub for budget airline Ryanair, while other budget carriers include Air Asia, Blue Air and EasyJet.

The Stansted Express leaves every 15 minutes for Liverpool Street Station in central London, while you can also travel by bus, shuttle, taxi or rental car.

Finally, the smallest and most convenient London airport is London City Airport (LCY). This is a popular choice with business travelers because of its location just six miles from central London. It serves destinations throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. The small terminal is easy to manage and the London Underground will take you downtown in no time, while there are also buses and taxis available.
